If local conditions improve in Butalin Township, Sagaing Region, the Butalin Hospital will reopen as soon as possible and provide health care to the people, said Sagaing Region Social Affairs Minister U Nyunt Win Aung.
The Region Minister for Social Affairs U Nyunt Win Aung responded to a question from Butalin Constituency Representative U Aung Min Kyaw on the second day of the second regular session of the third Sagaing Region Hluttaw held on June 5.
The Hospital Medical Superintendent and the staff at Butalin Public Hospital are being threatened, extorted, abducted, and killed by undesirable organizations, causing the staff to flee and the people to be denied access to medical care, Region Hluttaw Representative U Aung Min Kyaw Thu said in his question.
In response to a question from Region Hluttaw Representative U Aung Min Kyaw Thu, Minister for Social Affairs U Nyunt Win Aung said that Butalin Hospital was operational until the evening of November 18, 2023, and then the township medical officer was arrested by unknown armed groups on the road when the staff fled due to the local unrest.
In addition, out of the 20 staff at Butalin Hospital, only 9 staff reported to the Regional Department of Medical Services in Monywa and 2 staff reported to the Mandalay Regional Department of Medical Services. They were assigned to the Monywa General Hospital and the Regional Department of Medical Services, while the rest of the staff had not yet received communication with the department, according to U Nyunt Win Aung. Therefore, if the local situation in Butalin Township improves, Butalin General Hospital will reopen as soon as possible and provide health care to the people, said Minister for Social Affairs U Nyunt Win Aung.
