The Ministry of Health said that 500,000 doses of BCG vaccine donated by Brazil to Myanmar arrived at Yangon International Airport on the evening of July 16.
The donation was made by the Brazilian International Cooperation Agency to Myanmar as a gesture of humanitarian support to be used in the vaccination activities of the Public Health Department, Ministry of Health.
The value of donated 500,000 doses of BCG vaccine is US$90,000.
The BCG vaccine needs to be administered to newborns within 24 hours of birth or can be administered together with other vaccines before and after the age of two months, according to the Ministry of Health. The BCG vaccine will help Myanmar’s efforts to implement severe tuberculosis prevention programmes successfully.
