Union Minister for the Ministry 2 of the President’s Office U Ko Ko Hlaing has urged to speed up and to cooperate the completion of the Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone project, which is important for both Myanmar and China, and to continue to cooperate. Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing made the remarks at the 10th anniversary celebration of CITIC Myanmar’s CSR activities held at the Strand Hotel in Yangon on December 5.
The Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone project is an important part of the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor and will also serve as a golden gateway for Myanmar to quickly export large quantities of Myanmar’s exports to the world market, said Union Minister U Ko Ko Hlaing. CITIC Group, amidst various difficulties, has continuously supported and assisted the Myanmar people with genuine sincerity and goodwill, proving to be a loyal and good friend.
The completion of the Kyaukpyu Special Economic Zone project will significantly boost Myanmar’s socio-economic development and China-Myanmar economic and trade cooperation. CITIC Myanmar, as a project implementer, has carried out “Small and Beautiful” social welfare projects in Myanmar, including mobile clinics, mangrove planting, the “Smiling Children” food donation program, and the “CITIC Star” scholarship initiative, actively fulfilling its social responsibilities, said Ms. Ma Jia, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar.
Looking back on CITIC Myanmar’s ten-year journey, Mr. Piao Bo, Managing Director of CITIC Myanmar, said that the support and encouragement of local people and recognition from various sectors of society have given them inexhaustible strength to move forward. CITIC Myanmar’s social welfare projects are widely spread from Kyaukpyu to Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw, Mandalay, Sittwe and other places.
U Kyaw Kyaw Soe, Chairman of the Kyaukphyu Township Local People’s Socio-Economic Development and Assistance Association, said that they will continue to work in a multi-faceted manner in collaboration with Myanmar CITIC in the areas of environmental conservation, socio-economic development, education, and health in the Kyaukphyu region.
2025 marks the 10th anniversary of the successful tender of the CITIC Consortium’s Kyaukphyu Special Economic Zone Deep Sea Port and Industrial Park Projects (Kyaukphyu Projects) and the 10th anniversary of CITIC’s CSR social welfare activities in Myanmar.
The 10th anniversary of CITIC Myanmar’s CSR celebration was attended by Union Minister for the Ministry 2 of the President’s Office U Ko Ko Hlaing, Deputy Minister for Commerce U Kyaw Shwe Htun,, Ms. Ma Jia, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, Mr. Piao Bo, Managing Director of CITIC Myanmar, and officials from partner organizations.
