Defending U.S. Open champion Coco Gauff trained in New York on Tuesday (August 20) as she looks to shake off a string of surprising defeats ahead of the final Grand Slam of the year.
The American is one of the favourites at Flushing Meadows but will have to improve her consistency if she is to make another run to the title.
Gauff suffered a big blow to her preparations for the Aug. 26-Sept. 8 U.S. Open when she lost her first match at the Cincinnati Open last week, the latest in a run of tour-level losses to unfancied players going back to the French Open in June.
Italian Jasmine Paolini will be hoping to continue her breakthrough year which has catapulted her to number five in the world.
The 28-year-old made the final of the French Open and Wimbledon, and took home gold in the women’s doubles at the Olympics with Sara Errani.
