Poland’s Magdalena Frech capped off a solid summer climbing up the WTA rankings with a first tour title on Sunday (September 15) at the Guadalajara Open.
The fifth seed overcame Australian qualifier Olivia Gadecki 7-6(5), 6-4 in the final of the ATP 500 hard court event.
With the first set decided by a tiebreak after neither player could force a break of service, Gadecki then responded by breaking Frech’s serve in the first game of the second set.
The Pole was not to be denied, however, roaring back to rack up triple championship point in the following game which she converted on the first attempt with a backhand passing shot winner.
Having fallen short to compatriot Magda Linette in her first career final on Prague’s clay in July, Frech is now expected to rise inside the top 40 in Monday’s (September 16) updated WTA rankings.
