The Ministry of Information has announced that it is taking action against the creator, broadcaster, organizer and participants of the song “Bon Ti Mae” that mocks and insults Myanmar’s instruments “Bon” and “Pat Ma”.
The music video for “Bon Ti Mae” by composer and singer Aung Pa-sae features a dirty dance performance that mocks and insults the Myanmar instruments “Bon” and “Pat Ma”, which are considered valuable and proud of the Myanmar people and contain ambiguous lyrics that could give obscene meanings, the announcement said.
According to the announcement, those who have obtained a registration certificate for broadcasting movies using telecommunications networks must submit their content to be broadcasted to the scrutiny committee under Notification No. 32/2024 to undergo scrutiny. Composer and singer Aung Pa-sae is broadcasting music videos through his various social networks without obtaining a registration certificate for broadcasting movies through using telecommunications networks.
The Ministry of Information has scrutinized and issued business registration certificates after it issued a notification that declares the broadcasting of movies using telecommunications networks as an essential service by exercising the authority provided in Subsection (c) of Section 4 of the Essential Supplies and Services Law. In addition, in 2024, action has been taken against the singers and actors in the music videos of “Achit Khankyi”, “Saunt Pet”, “Sagarlay Takhunpe Phay Chitlar” and “Beer Bike”, and they have been arrested and prosecuted under the Electronic Transactions Law.
