The Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge (2) has been temporarily closed from the Myanmar side since the morning of August 18, which could lead to a shortage of imported goods from Thailand and increase prices, said U Saw Khin Maung Myint, Minister of Economy of the Kayin State Government.
The temporary closure of the No. 2 Friendship Bridge, which is important for Thai-Myanmar trade, has recently halted Thai-Myanmar trade and has left about 500 trucks stuck. The Myanmar side has temporarily closed the No. 2 Friendship Bridge due to the recent dissolution of the Steering Committee for Combating Illegal Trade and the ongoing application for import licenses for trucks, said U Saw Khin Maung Myint, Minister of Economy. The Myanmar-Thai Friendship Bridge (2) will be reopened when the Union Government gives permission and Thai goods will be allowed to be imported again, he said.

The temporary closure of Friendship Bridge No. 2 could result in a lack of Thai imports and a rise in prices, according to Minister of Economy U Saw Khin Maung Myint. The temporary suspension of Friendship Bridge No. 2 will result in a shortage of Thai goods and an increase in pricing, according to Myawaddy residents. Trucks, the majority of which are importing food, consumer goods, construction, and electrical goods, have become trapped in Mae Sot as a result of the bridge’s shutdown. Although, Friendship Bridge No. 2 between Myawaddy and Mae Sot is currently closed, Friendship Bridge No. 1 remains operational as usual and two-way traffic continues.
