Trade and investment promotion between Myanmar and China was discussed by the two sides, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Tin Maung Swe met with Mr. Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.
The two sides discussed ways to further strengthen the traditional Swe Myo Pauk Phaw friendship between Myanmar and China, accelerate practical cooperation, including the establishment of a “community of shared interests”, and enhance cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries. They exchanged views on the continued cooperation between the two countries for the stability and peace of the border region and China’s continued support for Myanmar’s efforts for peace and socio-economic development. They also agreed to jointly combat online fraud and illegal activities in the border areas in a good neighborly manner, and to strengthen mutual support and cooperation in regional and international arenas.
At the meeting, Union Minister U Tin Maung Swe expressed Myanmar’s appreciation to China for its continuous support and assistance to Myanmar, especially in the post-earthquake reconstruction efforts. Myanmar fully supports the “One China Policy” and the four global initiatives of the Chinese President, and will continue to cooperate in regional and international arenas. In particular, cooperation under the frameworks of the SCO and Lancang-Mekong Cooperation will be further enhanced, said Union Minister U Tin Maung Swe.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi also said that China supports Myanmar in further promoting Swe Myo Pauk Phaw friendship and that it is following a path that is consistent with Myanmar’s national interests in the peace process and democracy building. He also said that the two foreign ministries will work together more closely to enhance mutual understanding and trust expanding cooperation in various fields.
