President U Min Aung Hlaing urged to build a more resilient, vibrant and people-centered BIMSTEC community for the current and future generations in his message on the occasion of the 29th anniversary of the establishment of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral, Technological and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) on June 6.
On the auspicious occasion of the 29th anniversary of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral, Technological and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), he would like to express warm greetings and prayers to the governments, people and Secretariat of the BIMSTEC, on behalf of the Government and people of the Union of Myanmar, the message said.
BIMSTEC, which emerged through the Bangkok Declaration, is a global organization based on the principles of equality, mutual respect and partnership and is an important platform for enhancing regional cooperation and accelerating economic and social development in the Bay of Bengal region, the message also said.
Over the past twenty-nine years, BIMSTEC has continued to strengthen its institutional framework and expand cooperation in priority areas, and collective efforts have not only enhanced the effectiveness of the organization but also strengthened regional cooperation, the message states.
Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of the establishment of BIMSTEC, achievements
must be reviewed setting higher goals and planning for the future and We urge them to continue working together to develop BIMSTEC into a more effective, results-based, and responsive regional organization that can deliver tangible benefits to our people, the message urged.
The message also said that BIMSTEC Day is an opportunity to raise awareness of the great potential in our region and the importance of unity in harnessing that potential. BIMSTEC, which is comprised of South and Southeast Asian countries, was established on June 6, 1997, and its member states are Myanmar, India, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Nepal.
