The Central Bank of Myanmar announced on January 28 that it will sell $23 million to fuel oil entrepreneurs in the foreign exchange market. In addition, it will also sell 30 million Thai baht to importers in the foreign exchange market.
Similarly, the Central Bank sold more than two million US dollars of the foreign exchange purchased from CMP companies to companies importing edible oil on January 28, according to the statement. The Central Bank of Myanmar announced that it has sold more than 3 billion US dollars in the foreign exchange market in the nine months to January 15 of the 2025-2026 fiscal year. It said that the amount sold in the foreign exchange market was sold to important sectors such as fuel oil, edible oil, telecommunications and electricity.
The Central Bank of Myanmar sells foreign exchange needed by importers through the Online Trading Platform to stabilize the foreign exchange rate and prevent speculation. Small amounts of foreign currency are also being sold at money transfer counters of private banks for those who are going abroad for medical treatment, education, pilgrimage, or employment.
