Narcotic drugs worth over 3.7 billion kyats were seized in Waw Township, Bago Region, on March 10 morning, according to the statement released by the Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control on March 16.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team including security personnel searched a 22-wheeler vehicle driven by a man from Mandalay to Hpa-an near Nyaung Khar Shay village, Waw Township, Bago Region, at around 5:30 am on March 10. During the search, 2.53 million stimulant pills worth over 3.7 billion kyats were found hidden in the radiator of the vehicle. Investigation revealed that the seized stimulant pills were arranged by the Yan Kyar Short aka Kalar to transport from Mongyai, Shan State (North), to Hpa-an, Kayin State, according to the statement.

The arrested person has been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law, and investigations are ongoing to identify the chain of perpetrators in the case. In addition, on March 9 morning, 30.8 kilograms of heroin and 1.54 million stimulant pills worth over one billion kyats were seized in Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay Region, according to the committee’s statement released on March 15.
