The number of traffic accidents and fatalities nationwide in the first four months of this year has decreased compared to the same period last year, according to the statement released by the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
In the period from January to the end of April this year, there were 1,148 traffic accidents in regions and states and on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway resulting in 622 deaths and 1,704 injuries.

Compared to the same period last year, the number of traffic accidents decreased by 343 with 169 deaths and 540 injuries. The highest number of traffic accidents this year occurred in Yangon, Ayeyawady and Bago regions with the largest number of deaths.In the same period, there were 58 traffic accidents on the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway resulting in 20 deaths and 159 injuries. Compared to the same period last year, the number of traffic accidents and deaths has decreased, the statement said.
