In addition to canceling of YBS driver’s smart cards, if they violate the rules they will also be revoked their driver’s licenses issued by the Road Transport Administration Department for a period of time, said U Chit Ko Ko, Vice President of Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC). He said it at the awareness seminar held on January 16.
YBS drivers are responsible for transporting passengers to their destinations safely and the awareness seminar was held to decrease death and injury, to ensure not repeatedly violated traffic rules and to ensure that drivers do not use narcotic drugs while driving, said U Chit Ko Ko.
Last year, there were 6 deaths of passengers due to driving with the side door open and this year the number declined to 3 deaths.

The reason for driving without discipline is because of piece rate system and driving with a competitive race to get more trips. That leads to dealing rudely and quarrelling between passengers and drivers, overtaking between YBS vehicles, reverse driving, passing through a red traffic light, driving more than the specified kilo and these acts will not be absolutely tolerable, said U Chit Ko Ko.

In addition to cancelling the driving smart cards, the notification has been sent to the Road Transport Administration Department to revoke the licenses of drivers who break the rules, said YRTC joint secretary U Lyan Cing Mang. This year, effective measures will be taken to discover the undisciplined drivers. The awareness seminar was attended by officials from Yangon Region Public Transport Committee (YRTC) and more than 100 YBS driver who broke the rules.
