The powerful earthquake that struck this afternoon has caused damage across the country, but initial reports indicated that the ancient temples in Bagan remained undamaged.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced that a powerful earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck near Mandalay as the focus of an earthquake at around 12:51 p.m. on March 28.
The earth quake caused damage in Mandalay, Sagaing, Nay Pyi Taw and other areas, but pagodas in Bagan were not affected, a Bagan resident said on social media.
Initially, it was reported that the famous pagodas in Bagan, such as Ananda, Thatbyinnyu, Shwe San Daw, Dhammaramgyi and Sulamani Pagoda, were not damaged.
