According to the latest figures collected until 8 am on April 3, the total number of people killed in the earthquake-hit areas nationwide has reached 3,085 with 4,715 injured and 341 missing, according to a statement released by the Information Team of the State Administration Council.
The powerful earthquake that struck on March 28 and its aftershocks affected the regions of Sagaing Region, Mandalay and Magway, northeastern Shan State, Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory and Bago Region.
In addition, roads, bridges and buildings were damaged due to the powerful earthquake and aftershocks, and people were killed and injured as well. Search and rescue operations are underway in the relevant earthquake-affected areas.
The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced that a very strong earthquake struck on March 28 and that there were 64 aftershocks over a period of seven days until the morning of April 3.
