A fire broke out in a two-story house in Sisone Ward, Kyaukse Township, Mandalay Region, at about 2 a.m. on May 22 due to an overheating refrigerator safeguard, killing four elderly women, a member of the Kyaukse Social Welfare Association told One News.
Firefighters fought the fire for more than half an hour. The fire killed four members of the family: Daw Tin Aung, 93, Daw Htwe Htwe, 75, High School Teacher (retd), Daw Nwe Nwe Oo, 66, Township Education Officer (retd), and Daw Khin Thuzar, 58, Thapyay Kone village Basic Education Primary Shool Headmistress, who were asleep in the house.

The cause of the fire was an open refrigerator safeguard that overheated, according to police reports. A member of the Kyaukse Social Welfare Association said that the four members of the family may have died because they were falling asleep during the fire. The bodies of the four victims of the fire have been sent to the Kyaukse General Hospital morgue and will be cremated on May 22 at noon.
