Three drug manufacturing sites discovered and seized in Thibaw and Mongyai townships in Shan State (North) they are the main drug manufacturing sites in Myanmar, the National Defense and Security Council Information Team said on January 12.
It has been reported that equipment used in online gambling and drug manufacturing were seized in Thibaw and Mongyai townships. Based on the current estimate of the chemicals seized from the second site, 20 kilometers southwest of Mongyai, it is estimated that about 27 tonnes of ice worth 540 billion kyats can be produced, and if converted into methamphetamine, about 810 million methamphetamine tablets can be produced.
If the methamphetamine tablets reach the market, it is estimated that the drugs worth 1620 billion kyats will be distributed, according to the statement. Analysis of the equipment used to make the drugs seized at these locations revealed that more than 27 tonnes of methamphetamine (or 810 million methamphetamine tablets) are being produced on a regular basis. At the second location and a third location 19 kilometers southwest of the location, large quantities of Guan Yin Wang paper wrappers and Chinese paper wrappers were also seized.
Of the 37.815 tonnes of ice seized nationwide in 2025, 11.686 tonnes of ice wrapped in Guan Yin Wang paper and 0.96 tonnes of ice wrapped in Chinese paper, a total of 12.646 tonnes, with a total value of 252.92 billion kyats, were seized. The amount produced and distributed from these two locations accounted for 33.44 percent of the total amount of ice seized nationwide in 2025. Therefore, the three drug manufacturing sites discovered and seized on January 10 and 11, 2026, were identified as the main drug manufacturing sites in Myanmar.
