A group of people involved in online gambling were arrested near Pansin Village, Thibaw Township, Shan State (North), along with their business equipment on December 17, said the National Defense and Security Council Information Team.
While security forces arrived at Pansin Village around 9:30 a.m. on December 17 and searched the area, two armed men in a group of tents opened fire on security forces. Security forces returned fire and cleared the area. Three SSPP/SSA members were arrested along with one AK-47, one M-22, one MK-12, and one Point-22, the statement said.
The search operation continued and the five Chinese nationals and one Myanmar woman, along with 17 tents and small shelters they were using, six computers, 70 laptops, 160 different types of phones, 10 iPads, 10 routers, 37 Modern (USB)Sticks, three generators, 19 Star Link Disks and related items were found and seized, the statement said.
According to initial investigations, there were about 200 people involved in online gambling at the scene, and they fled to various places when the shootings occurred, the statement said.
The crack down on online gambling fraud will be carried out in Myanmar until it is eradicated, and those involved in these activities and those behind the scenes will be identified and arrestested. Myanmar is actively cooperating with neighboring countries, regional countries, and international organizations to take effective and strong action against them.
