China’s help perticipated in busting drug manufacturing sites in Hsipaw and Mongyai townships in Shan State (north), said Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun, head of the National Defense and Security Council’s Information Team. The bust is the largest in Myanmar’s history and it was a result of China’s full cooperation and information sharing, Maj. Gen. Zaw Min Tun said.
The three drug manufacturing sites that were discovered and seized in Hsipaw and Mongyai townships in the past few days are the main drug manufacturing sites in Myanmar, and if the methamphetamine tablets produced from these sites reach the market, the distributed drugs will be worthed 1620 billion kyats, the National Defense and Security Council Information Team said. According to the analysis of the equipment used in the drug manufacturing sites, it was found that more than 27 tonnes of ice (or 810 million methamphetamine tablets) were regularly produced.
The press conference of the Government of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar regarding the seizure of the largest amount of drugs and the equipment used in the production of drugs, and the seizure of equipment used in online gambling fraud was held at the Aniskan Airport in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region, on the morning of January 14 and Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung, member of the National Security and Peacekeeping Commission, and Deputy Minister for Information Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, made the clarification.
The press conference was attended by ambassadors, diplomats, and military attachés from Nepal, Laos, Pakistan, Brunei, and Bangladesh, officials from the National Drug Control Commission of China, the Drug Control Agency of Thailand, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), local news agencies, daily newspapers, local television stations, and journalists from domestic and foreign news agencies.
Then, a military helicopter flew to the drug manufacturing sites near Man Phyat Village, Mongyai Township, Shan State (Northern) and near Kaung Hut Village, Hsipaw Township, and inspected them. The Myanmar Police Force, Narcotics Control Police Chief Thant Lwin Maung, and officials explained the seized drug manufacturing equipment and answered questions.
Afterwards, a reward of 100 million kyats to members of the security forces and Myanmar Police Force who were able to uncover and arrest drug manufacturing sites conferred by Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing was presented by Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung and Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun and received by Brig-Gen Aye Min Oo, Commander of the Northeastern Military Command, and Deputy Chief of the Myanmar Police Force Pol. Gen. Win Bo.
