The initial damage caused by the Mandalay earthquake was Ks.3,804.549 billion, said Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing. He made the remarks at the second donation ceremony held at the Bayintnaung Hall in Nay Pyi Taw on the afternoon of May 29.
The earthquake affected more than half a million people in 10 regions and states, including Nay Pyi Taw, with 3,739 deaths, 68 missing and 5,104 injured. The damage to houses, buildings and other structures included 5,210 homes, 431 road works, 103 bridges, 83 railway damage sites, 11 railway bridges, 6,730 mobile communication stations, 10 power lines, 3,435 electricity poles, 594 irrigation dams, 6 embankments, 11,338 government buildings, 384 hospitals, 364 clinics, 166 ancient buildings and museums, 2,409 Basic Education Schools, 72 Higher Education Schools, 90 private schools, 6,469 pagodas, 5,588 monasteries, nunneries and other religious buildings, 344 private factories/workshops, 78.5 acres of crops, and 133,700 animals, said Senior General Min Aung Hlaing.
At the second donation ceremony, local and foreign donors donated 51 homes, a four-story apartment complex with 16 rooms (4 units per floor).The cost for a building is Ks.2000 million and a total value is Ks. 131.53 billion or US$.2314,900.
