If measures are effectively taken in advance to prevent natural disasters, the cost of recovery efforts can be reduced by about seven times, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said.
He made the remarks at the second donation ceremony for relief and rehabilitation efforts for Mandalay earthquake victims held at the Bayintnaung Yeiktha in Nay Pyi Taw on May 29 afternoon.
When carrying out rehabilitation work, it is necessary to consider not only the current disasters but also the potential disasters in advance and implement them in accordance with the specified standards to ensure sustainability for the future. Investment in disaster prevention will not only enhance the country’s resilience but also prevent the loss of economic and other development gains due to natural disasters, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said.
The government will work towards achieving a better reconstruction than the original situation, leaving no one behind through making short-term and long-term plans to effectively and successfully carry out the reconstruction work, and in doing so, as there are limits in capacity of the government to do alone, only by working together, can the rehabilitation work in the earthquake-affected areas be carried out quickly and effectively, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing said.
