A ceremony to commemorate World Environment Day was held on June 5 morning at the town hall in Magway, and this year’s celebration took place with the main objective of implementing the reduction of plastic consumption.

At the ceremony, Magway Region Chief Minister U Tint Lwin delivered a speech, and officials presented awards for the region-level village with good environmental management, the clean and green school award as well as the composition awards. Awarding schools for environmental conservation helps students gain knowledge and love for plants, said Daw Aye Aye San, a teacher at Pwintbyu Township Primary Sub-School (Hlegyi), the second-place winner of the Union-level clean and green school.
The Department of Environmental Conservation has also put up posters in busy places, held awareness-raising lectures at universities, training centers and schools and distributed pamphlets on plastic bag alternatives on the eve of World Environment Day.
