The Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) urged the International Labour Organization (ILO) to continue to cooperate with legitimate businesses that adhere to law and committed to supporting the livelihoods of the Myanmar people while creating job opportunities.
UMFCCI had urged the international community, including the ILO and international business stakeholders, to make four points regarding employers and workers.

The ILO, in making a decision under Article 33 of its Constitution, urged UMFCCI to avoid actions that could jeopardise the livelihoods of employers, workers, businesses and people of Myanmar. It also called upon Myanmar to support other relevant stakeholders within the country, including organisations representing both employers and workers, to strengthen adherence to the ILO’s fundamental provisions. ILO encouraged UMFCCI to maintain and expand contacts with employers and their organizations, to promote workers’ rights, to improve industrial relations and to promote responsible business practices.
UMFCCI will collaborate closely with relevant domestic and international organizations, taking into consideration the recommendations set forth in Article 33 of the ILO Constitution. Furthermore, UMFCCI stated that it will continue to support employers, including its members, to ensure the effective implementation of workers’ rights and improve industrial relations in Myanmar. UMFCCI was founded in 1919 as the Burma Chamber of Commerce and Industry and is the largest and longest-standing employers’ organization in Myanmar. UMFCCI is the employer representative in the Myanmar tripartite mechanism of the International Labour Organization.
