Pigeon pea prices are falling due to lack of demand in the Magway market, said local wholesalers. In Magway Township, pigeon pea is grown as a multiple crop with peanuts and sesame in the early monsoon and is harvested in January during the late monsoon. When bean was first harvested, it was priced at about Ks.95,000 to 120,000 per basket.

Currently, due to a lack of market demand, the price of pigeon pea is only at about Ks.88,000 per basket, and those who stock it are experiencing a loss, said Ko Htin Lin Aung, a local wholesaler in Magway. Pigeon pea is mainly purchased from India, and Magway pigeon pea trading is based on the Yangon market.
