Farmers in Magway Township say that peanut and sesame fields need rain. They started planting monsoon peanut and sesame fields in early May. The lack of sufficient rain after planting peanut and sesame fields has led to uneven germination and poor plant growth, said U Nyunt Oo, a farmer from Magyikan Village, Magway Township.
Due to the lack of sufficient rain, weeds have not grown well in the fields, so the cost of weeding is lower than last year. The early onset of the monsoon was good for farmers, allowing them to cultivate late-season crops earlier. However, at present, it is reported that rain is still needed for the healthy growth of monsoon crops.
