Yangon General Hospital has announced that it is reducing and eliminating the practice of charging for illegal fees when transporting the bodies of those who died for various reasons.
Yangon General Hospital is working to ensure that the bodies of those who died for various reasons can be transported to the relevant, nearby and far away cemeteries, at a reasonable cost, receive assistance from genuine charitable organizations, and supervise charity taxis that are aimed at profit, and unethical ambulances. On June 1, a meeting was held with relevant regional Hluttaw representatives, the Latha Township General Administration Department, the City Development Committee, Yangon General Hospital, and charitable organizations that included about 55 individuals.
The meeting discussed the issue of providing free (or at a reasonable price) transportation of dead body vehicles and ambulances through Yangon General Hospital and the issues including the name of the charity group that would provide assistance, the contact person, and the phone number to be posted on vinyl at the hospital.
Then, on June 3 and 4, a joint team consisting of the Township Police Chief, Traffic Control Officer, Township General Administration Department, Township Municipality, and Ward Administrators inspected conducted a field inspection to ensure that ambulances do not park for long periods of time in front of the entrance of Yangon General Hospital without any reason, and that the ambulances are registered with the association, and that the situation will be reported to the hospital support team for regular supervision In addition, the announcement stated that the charity organizations that will help the new two –storied morgue of Yangon General Hospital, which will open on June 8, will install vinyl signs for the public to inform when they are asked for money. It also stated that employees are being asked to wear name badges on their chests and that four employees have been transferred to other departments.
