The opening ceremonies of the new Gyaing (Zar Thapyin) Bridge in Hpa-an, Karen State, and the new Attaran Bridge in Mawlamyine, Mon State, built through Myanmar-Japan cooperation, were held on the morning of March 8, and were attended by the Prime Minister, U Nyo Saw. The ceremonies were attended by the Union Ministers, the Chief Ministers of Kayin State and Mon State, the Commander of the Southeastern Military Command, Deputy Ministers, State Government Ministers, State, District and Township level department officials, village elders, local people, ethnic and traditional groups, and students.
First, the Prime Minister and his party arrived at the opening ceremony of the new Gyaing (Zar Thapyin) Bridge in Hpa-an, Kayin State, and were welcomed by the officials, and Union Ministers U Htun On, U Min Naung, U Myo Thant, Chief Minister of Kayin State U Saw Myint Oo and Chief Minister of Mon State U Aung Kyi Thein cut the ribbon to open the new Gyaing (Zar Thapyin) Bridge.
After that, Chief Minister of State U Nyo Saw opened the new Gyaing (Zar Thapyin) Bridge by pressing the button and spraying incense. The Chief Minister presented a commemorative gift to the engineering teams that participated in the construction of the bridge, and Union Minister U Myo Thant presented a commemorative gift to the Chief Minister of State.
Similarly, the opening ceremony of the new Attaran Bridge in Mawlamyine, Mon State was attended by Union Minister U Myo Thant, Chief Minister of Mon State U Aung Kyi Thein, Deputy Ministers U Aung Kyaw Htun, General Phyo Thant and U Myo Myint cut the ribbon to open the new Attaran Bridge. After that, the Prime Minister U Nyo Saw opened the new Attaran Bridge by pressing the button and spraying incense. Union Minister U Myo Thant paid homage and presented the Prime Minister with a commemorative gift for the opening of the new Attaran Bridge.
The new Gyaing (Zar Thapyin) Bridge is a steel cable-stayed bridge. The bridge is 2,615 feet long, has a four-lane carriageway, a 750-foot clearway, and is 40 feet high. The bridge’s carrying capacity is 75 tonnes. The new Attaran Bridge is also a steel cable-stayed bridge. The bridge is 1,575 feet long, has a four-lane carriageway, a 400-foot clearway, and is 40 feet high. The bridge’s carrying capacity is 75 tonnes.
The completion of these modern steel cable-stayed bridges will contribute to the development of the country, as well as the development of local socio-economic life, domestic and foreign businesses, and create more job opportunities. In addition, these bridges will be used to improve the flow of goods from Mawlamyine, Mon State, to the Tanintharyi Region, Dawei Special Economic Zone, the deep-sea port, and the Thilawa Special Economic Zone in Yangon, as well as to connect with Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand on the East-West Economic Corridor.
