28 Chinese nationals were arrested for online gambling along with related equipment and residential buildings near the Dokhtawaddy River in Taung Htake Village, Kyaukme Township, Shan State (North), the National Defense and Security Council Information Team said on December 1.
On November 30, security forces arrived near the Dokhtawaddy River south of Taung Htake Village, Kyaukme Township, and searched the area after finding suspicious buildings and found that the area was a place where online money laundering and gambling were being carried out. No one was found, but the residential buildings, 30 computers, 10 STAR LINK trays, and other electrical equipment were found and confiscated.
While continuing to conduct area security operations, 10 Chinese nationals who were involved in online gambling were arrested north of Taung Htake Village on December 1, 10 more Chinese nationals were arrested south of Taung Htake Village and 8 Chinese nationals were arrested near Pongwoe Village, the statement said.
In addition, the seized equipment, residential buildings, and accommodations used in online gambling fraud were burned down, and the arrested and those involved will be prosecuted and taken to court according to the law, and the foreign nationals will be repatriated to their respective countries on humanitarian grounds, the statement said.
