STORY: Spanish customs officers intercepted on Tuesday (June 25) a submarine believed to be carrying drugs off Spanish Cadiz coast, police said on Wednesday (June 26).
The operation ended with the arrest of the four Colombian crew members, who were rescued after sinking the vessel 280 miles west of the coast of Cadiz when the police arrived, they said.
The semi-submersible was swamped within minutes and sank with its cargo to the bottom of the sea, police statement said.
The investigators pointed out that the semi-submersible vessel was similar to other ‘narco-boats’ located in previous operations, and due to the location of the intervention as well as the behaviour of the detained crew, they believe it was carrying cocaine on board.
