More than 24 tons of controlled chemical substance of caffeine illegally imported through border areas have been seized so far this year, according to the Myanmar Police Force.

About two tons of the controlled chemical substance of caffeine were seized on a 12-wheeler truck driven by two men near Myogyi Village, Ywangan Township, Shan State (South), on December 3, and those involved in transporting and trading the illegal chemical substance were also arrested.

It is learnt that such action of seizure of the illegal import of controlled chemical caffeine was helpful to be able to prevent the production of more than 336 million pills of amphetamine.

Furthermore, according to results of research by international anti-drug control agencies, it is learnt that if one ton of caffeine were mixed with other chemicals to produce pills of amphetamine, about 14 million pills could be produced.
