The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, member of the Political Bureau, Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Wan Yi said that Myanmar is part of the ASEAN family, Chinese Embassy in Myanmar announced.
Mr. Wan Yi said this to reporters after 9th Lang Chan-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Thailand on August 16.
Supporting the implementation of ASEAN’s five common agreements on Myanmar, advocated for a soft landing of the Myanmar issue through the ASEAN method, hopes to play a positive role in bringing about reconciliation and development, Mr. Wan Yi said.
Before the meeting, Mr. Wan Yi visited Nay Pyi Taw on August 14 and met with SAC Chairman, Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Senior General (retired) U Than Shwe and Foreign Affairs Minister U Than Swe.
