One of the most recognizable jerseys in sports history will soon hit the bidding block as LeBron James’ St. Vincent-St. Mary’s High School jersey looks to fetch millions at auction in Hong Kong in September.
The jersey was worn by the NBA great during one of the most memorable Sports Illustrated front cover shoots, titled the “Chosen One.” Photographed by Michael LeBrecht, James can be seen wearing the number 23 jersey while palming the basketball.
ody Frederick, auction marketing director at Julien’s Auction, who are holding the auction, said the jersey represents the genesis of James’ storied career.
“This is really special because so much of who LeBron would become starts here. And so kind of getting in on at the front door with LeBron at this moment in time, it’s quite a special piece,” he said.
