Juergen Klopp was back at the Borussia Dortmund training ground on Friday (September 6) ahead of a testimonial match for two of his former players.
Dortmund will host a farewell match to celebrate the careers of former Poland internationals Lukasz Piszczek and Jakub Blaszczykowski on Saturday (September 7) at the Westfalenstadion. The right-sided duo, who were so crucial in Klopp’s team which won two Bundesliga titles and reached the 2013 Champions League final, have both retired in the space of the last 14 months.
Klopp, three months after leaving Liverpool, will be the manager for Team Blaszczykowski which will also have former Dortmund players such as Roman Weidenfeller, Mats Hummels and Kevin Grosskreutz.
In the other dugout is Klopp’s long-time assistant coach Peter Krawietz who takes charge of Team Piszczek with the squad also boasting the likes of Marcel Schmelzer, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Sokratis Papastathopoulos.
Before kickoff, Dortmund will officially bid farewell to Mats Hummels after it was announced on Wednesday (September 4) that the 35-year-old had signed for AS Roma as a free agent.
