The Government has received more than 32 billion kyats from the well-wishers so far as a donation for the relief and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected areas, Deputy Prime Minister and Vice Chairman of State Administration Council Vice-Senior General Soe Win said.
He made this comment at a donation ceremony held in Nay Pyi Taw on September 24 to take relief, rescue and rehabilitation measures in the flood-affected areas.
According to the statistics as of the morning of September 24, , 419 people have been killed in the floods, 253 religious schools and 926 roads and bridges have been destroyed by the floods as well as many electricity poles and communication towers, the Vice-Senior General said.
And, more than 100,000 animals died because of the floods and more than 750,000 acres of paddy plantation were destroyed. The Government has targeted to spend 30 billion kyats for flood relief and rehabilitation tasks, and well-wishers have donated more than 32 billion kyats so far, the Vice-Senior General said.
