A total of 549 people, 194 Chinese nationals and 355 Myanmar nationals who were involved in online scam, were arrested near Mingalar Muse Housing in Muse, Shan State (North) along with the evidences including weapons and money, Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun, leader of the Information Team of the State Administration Council, said.
On a tip-off that such online scam is being operated, a joint team of Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force and administrative body conducted raids on some areas in Muse on September 23 and 24 and carried out searches and arrests.
Maj-Gen Zaw Min Tun said that the arrested Chinese nationals would be transferred back to China in accordance with the immigration law, and action would be taken against the rest under the law.
In the crackdown, some accessories related to online scam including 58 phones and more than 700,000 yuans were also seized and Myanmar and China are taking measures for stability of the border region and law enforcement and security operations, he said.
