Tropical Storm Soulik, which crossed over the inland areas of Vietnam, moved westward and continued to cross over the central areas of Laos. After that, it weakened into a land depression, and the remaining clouds and the wind wave may continue to cross over some regions and states in Myanmar, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced.
This weather forecast was mentioned in the department’s special weather bulletin released at 7:00 a.m. on September 20.
The land depression may continue to move slowly westward and weaken into a low pressure cell over eastern part of Thailand. Then, in the next 24 hours, the remaining clouds and the wind wave may continue to cross over Myanmar’s Kayah, Kayin and Mon states, and Bago, Yangon and Ayeyawady regions, the forecast said.
Thereafter, it may continue to move westward and become stronger again by re-initiating into a low pressure area over the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal.
Due to the effect of the wind wave that could cross, between September 20 to 25, heavy rains or thundershowers will be widespread in Nay Pyi Taw and Bago, Yangon, Ayeyawady and Tanintharyi regions and Rakhine, Kayah, Kayin and Mon states with likelihood of regionally heavyfalls and strong winds, and scattered thundershowers may occur in Mandalay and Magway regions and Shan and Chin states.
In the department’s announcement, as natural disasters such as strong winds, flash floods and landslides can occur along with heavy rains, people living near the highlands are advised to be aware of landslides and those who live near small rivers and creeks of floods in advance. Domestic shipping and aviation are also advised to be aware of the possible natural disasters.
