Six people have been killed in the flood that occurred in the Inlay region, Nyaung Shwe Township, Shan State (South), until September 16, and two people were washed away in the floods according to the Nyaung Shwe Township Information and Public Relations Department.
It is learnt that due to torrential rains in the Inle region, mountain torrent began to flow into the Inle Lake on September 11 causing houses to sink. In the region, more than 20,000 were inundated due to the flooding, and regional and local welfare groups and departmental welfare groups are working together in conducting rescue and relief operations, an official of Nyaung Shwe Township Information and Public Relations Department said.
Seven flood relief camps have been opened so far. A total of 5,643 flood-affected people have been rescued, and they are in need of medicine and food.
