More than 47,000 acres of monsoon paddy were inundated In the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory due to the floods and more than 3,900 acres of crops were damaged as well according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.
There were 345,000 acres of monsoon paddy cultivated in the Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory, and of them, more than 47,000 acres were flooded. Of the flooded acres, 28,000 acres have resurfaced so far, and of the 17,000 acres affected, more than 3,900 acres have been damaged, the ministry said.
Measures are being taken to provide technology and assistance to be able to carry out re-cultivation in the agricultural areas damaged by the floods before end of the monsoon paddy season, ensure alleviation of the damage to the yield and crop quality in the flood-affected crop fields, and prevent and control crop pests and diseases.
Moreover, farmers need to jointly plant the oil crop of sunflower according to the planned acreage, and the Department of Livestock Breeding and Veterinary will manage bee pollination to ensure the quality seeds of sunflower, said Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung at a meeting with farmers from Pobbathiri and Zeyathiri townships on September 15.
