Myanma Railways has announced the schedule and fares for DEMU express train on the route between Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw which will start operating on February 28 with new air-conditioned DEMU carriages purchased from Japan.
On the route between Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw, No. 7 Up and No. 8 Down trains will be operated with new DEMU coaches, and on the route between Mandalay and Nay Pyi Taw, No.28 Down and No. 27 Up trains will be operated with new airbag-equipped carriages.
The DEMU train No. 7 Up will leave Yangon Central Station at 6 am and arrive at Nay Pyi Taw Station at 11:30 am, and the airbag train No. 27 Up will leave Nay Pyi Taw Station at 12 pm and arrive at Mandalay Station at 5 pm. The airbag train No. 28 Down will leave Mandalay Station at 6:00 am and arrive at Nay Pyi Taw Station at 11:00 am, and the No. 8 Down DEMU Train will leave Nay Pyi Taw Station at 12:00 pm and arrive at Yangon Station at 5:30 pm, the announcement said.

Accordingly, the total travel time by train from Yangon to Mandalay will be only 11 hours, which will reduce the travel time compared to the previous one. This new schedule will be more convenient for passengers, a passenger said. The Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train can carry 312 passengers and the Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay airbag train can carry 330 passengers.
The fares for the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train are 19,000 kyats for first class, 28,000 kyats for upper class and 19,000 kyats for third class. The fare for the Nay Pyi taw-Mandalay airbag train is 7,000 kyats for ordinary class and 11,000 kyats for upper class, the announcement said.
In addition, for the entire Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon journey, passengers can buy tickets for 26,000 kyats for ordinary class and first class and 39,000 kyats for upper class. Tickets will be sold three days in advance, the announcement said.
Trains with the new DEMU coaches started operating on October 2, 2024 on the Yangon-Bago route as well as the Yangon Circular Railway section in November last year.
