Myanmar Railways announced that the DEMU trains of Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw No. 7 Up and No. 8 Down and the airbag trains of Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay No. 27 Up and 28 Down have been running since February 28. The ceremony to launch Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train was held at Yangon Central Station on February 28 morning, attended by Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein, Deputy Minister for Transport and Communications U Aung Myaing and officials.
The ceremony to launch Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay airbag train was also held at the Mandalay Station on February 28 morning, attended by Mandalay Region Chief Minister U Myo Aung and officials. After that, passengers arriving at Nay Pyi Taw Station by the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train and passengers arriving by the Mandalay-Nay Pyi Taw airbag train were greeted by Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Htun Oo, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Htun Oo and officials.

The newly launched Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train No. 7 Up/No. 8 Down leaves Yangon Central Station at 6:00 am. and arrives at Nay Pyi Taw Station at 11:30 am. and leaves Nay Pyi Taw Station at 12:00 p.m. and arrives at Yangon Central Station at 1:30 p.m.
The Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay airbag train No. 27 Up/No.28 Down leaves Nay Pyi Taw Station 12 pm noon and arrives at Mandalay Station at 5 pm and leaves Mandalay Station at 6 am and arrives at Nay Pyi Taw Station at 1:30 pm.
Accordingly, the total travel time by train from Yangon to Mandalay with a transit at Nay Pyi Taw Station will be only 11 hours.

The fares for the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train are 19,000 kyats for first class, 28,000 kyats for upper class and 19,000 kyats for third class. The fare for the Nay Pyi taw-Mandalay airbag train is 7,000 kyats for ordinary class and 11,000 kyats for upper class, the announcement said. In addition, for the entire Yangon-Mandalay-Yangon journey, passengers can buy tickets for 26,000 kyats for ordinary and first class and 39,000 kyats for upper class. Tickets will be sold three days in advance, the announcement said.
The Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw DEMU train stops at the railway stations of Bago, Pyu and Taungoo only and the Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay airbag train at Thazi Railway Station only.
