The water ways near Tharabar Gate in Bagan heritage site will be rediscovered, according to the Archaeology and National Museum Department (Bagan branch). The aim of this activity is to maintain the long-term sustainability of the ancient cultural heritage and to improve drainage of water without stagnation.
The water ways through out the moat will be dredged again and water pipes will be constructed where there is necessary, said U Maung Maung Nan Nwe, Deputy Director of the Archaeology and National Museum Department (Bagan branch). There are three waterways entering eastern moat near Tharabar Gate in Bagan archeological zone and No(1) water way from Tuyin Taung enters the moat flowing through a series of lakes.
From there, it flows into the Ayeyawady river through the northern moat. Last raining season, the roads near Tharabar Gate east of palace wall were flooded because of bad weather.
