The Myanmar Police Force has been conducting a nationwide crackdown on unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles since June 1 to ensure that there will be no sale and use of unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles nationwide, according to the Myanmar Police Force. Some residents said that strict inspections have been carried out in some townships in Yangon Region to prevent the use of unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles.
Similarly, in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, the use of unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles have been subjected to crackdowns since June 1. The Police Force visited motorcycle dealers on Kyawka Road in Monywa and inspected business licenses of township development committee, sales licenses and tax payments,and necessary actions were taken.A plan will be formulated to eliminate (completely) unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles in Monywa Township, and a multipal team will also conduct inspections to determine whether there are any unlicensed motorcycles in motorcycle showrooms in the township.Furthermore, in Magway, Magway Region, joint teams consisting of police and military personnel are conducting inspections and arrests on major roads and lanes in an effort to crack down on those driving and selling unlicensed vehicles. According to locals, numerous people were arrested for driving and selling unregistered vehicles on June 1 and 2.
Currently, vehicles have been seized for selling unlicensed vehicles, and those who sell them will face prosecution. At the State Administration Council government work coordination meeting on May 20, SAC Chairman Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stated that it is necessary to identify unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles, as well as investigate and prosecute against all individuals involved. Furthermore, SAC Vice Chairman Deputy Prime Minister Vice -Senior General Soe Win, speaking at the Steering Committee for Combating Illicit Trade meeting on May 26, also said that current export and import of illegal goods was increasing, with unlicensed vehicles and motorcycles accounting for the majority of seizures.
