The toll collection system for freight and passenger vehicles on Thanlyin Bridge No. 3, a bridge spanning the Bago River that connects Yangon and Thanlyin Township, is being implemented using a QR code system, according to the Department of Highways.

The bridge is said to utilize both a cash collection system and a QR code system, which is used internationally for toll collection. The QR code system is the first of its kind in Myanmar. If successful, this AI-based QR code system could reduce the toll gate’s service costs compared to traditional payment methods that require direct cash transactions.

The QR Code system allows for the automatic reading of vehicles’ license plate numbers as they enter the toll gate on the bridge via Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR ). Drivers can use the MyanGo Toll Application installed on their smartphones to scan the QR Code displayed at the toll gate. They can then make their payment using their preferred mobile payment method. Once the payment is completed, the gate opens automatically, allowing the driver to pass through.
