More than 2,000 people died in traffic accidents across Myanmar in 2024, a decrease compared to the previous year, according to the statement released by the Department of Road Transport Administration.

There were 3,875 traffic accidents in regions, states and the Yangon-Mandalay Expressway in 2024, resulting in 2,011 deaths and 5,576 injuries. Compared to the previous year, 2023, there is a decrease by nearly 900 in traffic accidents, more than 400 deaths and more than 1,000 injuries, according to the statement.

In 2024, Yangon Region had the most traffic accidents with more than 800 accidents and more than 440 deaths, and Mandalay Region and Shan State had the second and third highest traffic accidents. Despite the decrease in traffic accidents, some Yangon residents said that more educational activities on traffic rules and regulations were needed.
