The Myanmar Embassy in Seoul announced that the income tax payment method for Myanmar workers in Korea will change from accepting cash payments to paying direct deposit into the embassy’s bank account starting May 12.
Those arriving in Korea no later than December 11, 2023, will be required to pay KRW 32,000 per month, or KRW 576,000 for 18 months, and those arriving no later than July 1, 2024, will be required to pay KRW 32,000 per month, or KRW 384,000 for 12 months.
Those arriving no later than January 1, 2025, will have to pay KRW 32,000 per month, or KRW 192,000 for 6 months.
Income tax in advance to the embassy’s bank account can be paid in person or through a representative.
Myanmar citizens working abroad must pay the tax calculated based on the lower tax rate on income they earned in foreign currency starting from October 1, 2023.
Therefore, Myanmar citizens working in Korea who hold PJ, PB, and PS passports pay income tax at the Myanmar embassy in Korea when they renew their passports.
