Five people pickpocketing in groups on YBS bus lines in Kyauktada Township, Yangon Region, were arrested, according to a statement released by the Information Team of the State Administration Council on May 23.
When pickpocketing a phone in a backpack belonging to U Saw Le Htoo Kyaw who was a passenger on a YBS No.58 bus in Kyauktada Township on May 19 morning, the five people had an argument with U Saw Le Htoo Kyaw who found out the pickpocketing. They punched U Saw Le Htoo Kyaw. Then, they dragged U Saw Le Htoo Kyaw’s son, Maung Khant Te Yo Say Htoo, off the bus at the Pansodan bus stop and beat him up. It was revealed that the Redmi mobile phone pickpocketed was taken by Aung Moe (aka Hla Myaing or aka Tae Gyi). Actions are underway to be able to arrest Aung Moe (aka Hla Myaing or aka Tae Gyi) as soon as possible to recover the evidence, the statement said.
The arrested pickpockets live in U Mya Ward, Kyimyindaing Township, and have previous convictions for pickpocketing. In addition, they are the people who pickpocket in groups on YBS buses that are used by the public. An investigation is underway to reveal the cases they committed, and measures are being taken to take effective action against them in accordance with the law and be able to arrest the remaining one as soon as possible, the statement said.
