A damaged bridge on the Yangon-Nay Pyi Taw Expressway, 165 miles, was restored quickly and vehicles were allowed to pass through as early as the early hours of May 31.
The bridge was temporarily closed on the evening of May 30 after damage was detected to the steel plates underneath it. According to travellers, the short shutdown and renovations left hundreds of vehicles stranded. It was reported that vehicles were allowed to pass one by one at about 1 am on May 31.

Following the Mandalay earthquake, major sections of the expressway and bridges on the main road were damaged. Investigations are ongoing, and the majority of the repairs have been completed.
