The renovation and restoration tasks of the platform and main temple of the Inle PhaungdawU Pagoda damaged by the Mandalay earthquake are being carried out to be completed in time for the upcoming pagoda festival.
In carrying out the renovation and restoration tasks in some the earthquake-hit areas of southern Shan State, especially efforts are being made to complete the tasks at the Inle PhaungdawU Pagoda before the festival season, said U Myo Myint, head of the rehabilitation and technical support team of the Myanmar Engineering Society for earthquake-affected areas in southern Shan State.

In doing so, in order to strengthen and make the platform more durable for long-term existence, large steel rods are being transported from the boat dock of the hotel zone to the Pagoda ground with large boats to be used in driving sheet piles, and additional reinforced concrete is being poured on the pillars of the pagoda’s main temple.
In addition, other damaged monasteries and religious buildings are being repaired with might and main together with state government officials. The powerful Mandalay earthquake that struck on March 28, 2025, caused damage to more than 2,200 buildings in the Inle region killing about 50 people.
