The Mahamuni Buddha Image in Mandalay was temporarily closed due to damage caused by the earthquake but the Buddha Image will be open to the public every Sabbath Day starting May 19. Monks and the public will be able to pay homage to the Buddha Image from the middle of the eastern stairways to the interior from 8 am to 4 pm, according to the Mahamuni Pagoda Board of Trustees.
After the earthquake, the damaged parts were cleaned up, and the strength of the pagoda was checked. Renovation work was carried out. Starting from the Myanmar New Year Day, the Buddha Image was shown live on LED board, and the public has been allowed to pay homage to it. A center to receive donations for repair and renovation of the religious buildings at the Mahamuni Buddha Image has been opened, and donations can be made, according to the pagoda board of trustees.
