Yangon is unlikely to experience an earthquake as powerful as the one in Mandalay, according to Daw Hla Hla Aung, Patron of the Myanmar Earthquake Committee.
The Sagaing Fault in Myanmar stretches 1,200 kilometres from Kachin State, passing through the earthquake fault lines of Indawgyi, Indawlay, and Bago, to the Andaman Sea. Therefore, Yangon is not situated on this major fault line, as the faults associated with Yangon are significantly shorter.

Daw Hla Hla Aung, the Patron of the Myanmar Earthquake Committee, has predicted that it is unlikely for Yangon to experience an earthquake as devastating as the Mandalay earthquake. According to the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, there have been 170 aftershocks since the Mandalay earthquake occurred on March 28.
